Callie Shanafelt

ABOUT

Callie Shanafelt is a documentary filmmaker, sound recordist and freelance journalist who loves using the best type of media to tell a story.

For eight years she produced the award-winning Voices of Diversity radio program on KBCS 91.3 FM in Seattle.  In 2009 she moved to the Bay Area to pursue her passion for visual storytelling in the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism documentary program.

Her first documentary: The Fountain, is about her quest to understand her father’s childhood and grandparents death at the 1950’s cult: The Wisdom, Knowledge, Faith and Love Fountain of the World.  The Fountain has screened in film festivals around the globe.

While sharing The Fountain with the world Callie continues to enjoy multimedia storytelling through audio, video and text.

Her radio reporting has been heard on the Crosscurrents radio program on KALW 91.7 FM and One World Report on KBCS 91.3 FM.

Her written work has appeared on www.baycitizen.org, www.healthycal.org, www.richmondconfidential.org, www.oaklandnorth.net and The West County Times newspaper.

Her videos have aired on BTV, SCANTV and UCTV and are available online on her vimeo page.

She also loves monitoring the world through headphones as a sound recordist for video projects.
